Food Pantry

West Deerfield Township operates a year-round food pantry for needy residents. Schools, churches, individuals, service organizations, and local businesses contribute the food. Donations of cash are used to purchase food gift certificates or turkeys and hams for the holidays. The pantry relies entirely on the generosity of the community to support the pantry and accepts all non-perishable food and personal care items. If you or your group are interested in making a contribution or in sponsoring a food drive, please call our office. We are currently assisting over 50 households with groceries every month.

Curves of Deerfield and their members collected food for the pantry during the month of March. Their annual collection was 1,023 pounds of food and household items that will re-stock the shelves of the pantry. We are most grateful to the Fletchers and each of the Curves members that participated in this food drive.

For Zachary's birthday mitzvah project at Moriah Pre-School, he chose to collect "chametz" (Hebrew word for food that is not Kosher for the holiday of Passover) and donate this food to the Deerfield Food Pantry. He wrote a letter to his class asking them to
bring in this chametz and they did! Zachary was very excited to be able to provide food for people who were not able to buy it for themselves.

Mother and son donating food he collected at his 9th birthday party.

Lucas Beslow is a member of the North Shore Unitarian church in Bannockburn, and chose as his social action project for his Affirmation, to collect and donate food to West Deerfield Township Food Pantry. Lucas is president of the Bannockburn School Student Council and asked the students to participate by bringing items to the school. We are grateful to the students at Bannockburn School and to Lucas for his leadership in this project.
